Privacy Policy
App: Shar Pei Effective date: May 29, 2026 Last updated: May 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Shar Pei (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the App on your iOS device.
Summary
- We do not collect, store, or transmit personal data to our own servers.
- We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not create user accounts.
- We have no servers: the App has no backend of any kind.
- All information the App shows is processed and stored locally on your device.
- The App makes direct connections to a few public endpoints solely to measure network reachability and latency. See Network checks below.
Information the App processes
1. Network configuration (on-device only)
The App reads information about the network your device is currently connected to, including:
- the type of connection (Wi-Fi, cellular, wired);
- the Wi-Fi network name (SSID), when permitted by iOS;
- IP addresses assigned to your device;
- DNS server configuration;
- the default gateway (router) address;
- the list of active network interfaces.
This information is read and used only on your device to display the network overview and details. It is never sent to us.
2. Network checks (public endpoints)
To measure reachability, latency, and stability, the App opens short TCP connections from your device to publicly available endpoints — by default the public DNS resolvers operated by Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), Google (8.8.8.8), and Quad9 (9.9.9.9). These connections are necessary for the diagnostics feature and are made directly from your device — they do not pass through any infrastructure operated by us (we operate none).
As part of normal internet operation, those public services may observe the IP address of the connection. We do not control them and we receive no information from them. Please consult their own privacy policies if you wish to learn how they handle such data.
3. Local event log
The App keeps a small log of network events (for example, going online or offline, a change of connection type, or a completed diagnostics run) so you can review recent activity. This log is stored only on your device and you can clear it at any time from within the App. It is never transmitted.
4. iOS system permissions
The App requests a single permission:
- Location (While Using the App). iOS requires an app to hold location permission before it is allowed to read the current Wi-Fi network name (SSID). The App uses this permission only to read the network name. It does not determine, record, or share your geographic position or coordinates, and it does not track your location.
You may revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings, and the App will continue to work without showing the Wi-Fi name.
Data we do not collect
We do not collect, and the App does not transmit to us, any of the following:
- name, email address, phone number, or other contact details;
- device identifiers (IDFA, IDFV) for advertising or tracking purposes;
- your geographic location or coordinates;
- contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or health data;
- crash logs or diagnostic data delivered to us (Apple may collect aggregated crash and usage data under your iOS privacy settings; we do not receive it).
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly process data from children.
Data retention and deletion
Because all data the App uses lives only on your device, deleting the App removes it entirely. There is no server-side data for us to delete.
Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Since we do not collect personal data, there is no personal data for us to access, correct, export, or erase. If you nevertheless wish to contact us about your privacy, see Contact below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
